Vanilla’s the Flavour

    This Summer’s Dress

If I was a milkshake flavour (you know, the type that brings the boys to the yard), I’d probably be lactose-free vanilla. But lacking in the bombshell ass-ets department means getting away with plunging necklines- something I tend to mention to friends who feel like their lack of curves makes them less feminine. Not that boobies should define any woman’s confidence because, hey, one day we’ll sag in all the wrong places and hopefully they’ll love us anyway.

But speaking of vanilla tastes, I picked up this ‘dress’ at Madewell during my roadtrip to SF. In actuality, it’s a beach cover up but I stitched a knot in the neckline to close off any pretension of cleavage and pass it off as everyday wear when paired with a leather jacket. Will hope future husband has a mutual appreciation for diagonal lines and prefers textures over color. We’d get along splendidly; only bickering about the thread count of the bedsheets and whether or not we ought to play T-Swift in the car.

    At the Aga Khan

Annual visits back to Toronto always bring an eagerness to explore new crevices and corners housing a cafe or two. The Aga Khan museum- dedicated to Islamic art and culture- is just one of those beautifully minimalist buildings that has a Getty sensibility with details stripped down to geometry, mass, light and shadow. Perhaps the Christian church could learn a thing or two about embracing the ornateness of simplicity without belittling the importance of beauty. Then again, you can’t beat a museum that serves pistachio-studded baklava and green tea.

Outfit photos by my dad, rest by me.
